Important Current Affairs May 2025
- The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has achieved a remarkable advancement by developing a high-pressure nanoporous multilayered polymeric membrane for seawater desalination. This initiative, led by the Defence Materials Stores Research and Development Establishment (DMSRDE) in Kanpur, aligns with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, highlighting India’s commitment to self-reliance. Specifically engineered for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), this innovative membrane resists the corrosive effects of chloride ions in seawater and will be utilized on Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) to ensure a reliable supply of freshwater onboard. This desalination technology transforms seawater into safe, usable water, reinforcing national security while promoting environmental sustainability and resource independence.
- External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar emphatically stated that the economic partnership between India and Honduras has steadily flourished over the past three decades, culminating in bilateral trade that has impressively surpassed 300 million dollars. This significant milestone underscores the robustness of our mutual ties and the potential for further collaboration in various sectors.
- India has emerged as one of the top six countries globally in filing patents for 6G technologies, according to Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani. Speaking at the Bharat 6G 2025 – 3rd International Conference and Exhibition in New Delhi on May 14, 2025, he highlighted India’s dedication to becoming a leader in next-generation telecom, supported by a dynamic research ecosystem and strong international collaborations.
