Welcome to Target Defence Academy, Here are some pictures for PPDT with Stories for SSB. The PPDT (Picture Perception and Discussion Test) is an important part of the SSB (Services Selection Board) interview process. It’s designed to assess your ability to perceive and analyze a given image and then discuss it with a group.
PPDT Pictures with Stories
Here’s a quick rundown of how it works:
- Picture Perception:
- You’ll be shown a hazy, ambiguous picture for about 30 seconds.
- The picture can be anything—a scene, a silhouette, etc. Your job is to interpret it and come up with a story based on what you perceive.
- Story Writing:
- After seeing the picture, you’re given around 4 minutes to write a story. The story should have a beginning, middle, and end, and it should involve some sort of positive action by the characters in the picture.
- Group Discussion:
- After everyone has written their stories, you’ll have to discuss your stories with a group of candidates. This is the trickiest part because you need to communicate your ideas clearly while listening to others, and you should not dominate or remain passive.
- Teamwork and leadership are key here! It’s important to be confident but also respectful of others’ ideas.

Story:
Nikhil, a 25-year-old worker at a dry fruit factory in Palampur, experienced a life-threatening situation one ordinary day. A sudden fire broke out in the factory due to a short circuit in the main plug, and it spread quickly. Without hesitation, Nikhil sprang into action. He grabbed a fire extinguisher and efficiently helped nearby workers evacuate the factory.
Realising the urgency of the situation, he called the fire brigade to ensure professional help was on the way. Thanks to his swift response and decisive actions, the fire was brought under control, and everyone was safely rescued. Nikhil felt a sense of satisfaction knowing he had made a difference when it mattered most.

Story:
Major Ram was stationed in the high altitudes of Jammu and Kashmir when he received orders from his senior officers to organize a trekking activity for his team. Excited about this opportunity, Ram called a meeting to discuss and plan the event. Together with his team, they carefully mapped out the trekking route and established a schedule.
On the day of the trek, Ram ensured that each team member was well-equipped by distributing essential gear, including maps, compasses, shoes, ropes, sticks, and kit bags. With everyone prepared, they set out to climb the mountain, filled with enthusiasm. The trek was a success, and their hard work did not go unnoticed; the senior officers commended the entire team’s efforts.

Story:
Rahul was 22 years old and was studying at Agriculture College in Lucknow. During his vacation back in his village, he noticed that the local farmers were still relying on outdated farming techniques. Determined to help, he collaborated with the sarpanch to organize a village meeting for the farmers.
At the meeting, Rahul shared his insights on modern agricultural practices, introducing them to high-yield variety (HYV) seeds, natural fertilisers, and contemporary machinery. He also informed them about beneficial government schemes, such as the Kisan Credit Card and Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, which could significantly enhance their crop productivity.
The farmers left the meeting feeling optimistic, and the sarpanch praised Rahul for his valuable efforts in bringing awareness and knowledge to the community.
The main things the assessors are looking for in the PPDT are:
- Clarity of thought: How well you observe and interpret the picture.
- Creativity and problem-solving: The way you form a meaningful story from the image.
- Communication skills: How well you present your ideas in the group discussion.
- Leadership: Are you able to guide or contribute positively to the group?
