- The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has voiced serious concerns about the economic viability of GSAT-18, primarily due to the underutilization of six transponders until 2027. They have urged the Department of Space to exercise stricter financial oversight for satellite projects funded by taxpayers. Currently, a revenue loss of ₹117 crore has been attributed to these idle transponders. Launched by ISRO on October 5, 2016, GSAT-18 is an important communication satellite weighing 3,404 kg, placed into Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) with a mission life lasting until 2032. It is essential to optimize the use of this valuable asset to protect public investment and enhance future benefits.
- India successfully flight-tested the Vertically Launched Short-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VL-SRSAM) off the Odisha coast. Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), this quick-reaction missile neutralizes aerial threats, including sea-skimming targets. Initially designed for the Indian Navy with a range of 40 km, it can now reach up to 80 km and is also being adapted for the Indian Air Force to protect air bases.
- Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the launch of ‘Sahkar,’ a cooperative-run ride-hailing service that will compete directly with Uber and Ola, aimed at empowering local communities and providing reliable transport options.
