- The World Trade Organization’s (WTO) Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies has recently come into effect, marking the first multilateral agreement focused on environmental sustainability. Adopted at the 12th Ministerial Conference in 2022, it prohibits subsidies for illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, as well as for overfished stocks and unmanaged high seas. India remains the top performer among lower-middle-income economies and in the Central and Southern Asia region.
